I will discuss some of the issues with repairs for these guns in articles under alterations. They may not be great collectors guns, but they would still outshoot most of the new guns of today.

Those in excellent condition, would be rated as excellent for collecting and investing in.Īny of these guns are excellent choices for hunting and shooting. Finding them in original condition, and not altered would be a very good find. They were guns that were made to use and that is what they did with them. Make sure you know before you buy as it does effect the price.įinding the Remington rifles 721-722 in excellent condition is beginning to get very difficult. Very few Remington Arms Company firearms had factory recoil pads installed on them in the 50’s and 60’s. They were a simple design and the gun was therefore easy to take apart and reassemble.

I would also install recoil pads on these Remington firearms in the 30-06 calibers. They were heavily used and therefore the bluing would be worn and require a new finish. I know I blued many of these guns in the 1980s and 90s. This is also a gun that I did work on while a gunsmith at the shop in Pennsylvania. There always seemed to be one or two of these guns on the rack for sale and we had some hunters and shooters who would only buy the 721 or 722. We bought and sold many of these guns at our gun shop. The 721 and 722 Remington firearms were very popular in that country.

The gun shop I worked in was located in northeastern Pennsylvania. I also think the 721 in the 280 Remington cartridge was one of the best deer rifles ever produced. It was very accurate, and a nice gun to carry. The model 722 in the 222 Remington cartridge was one of my favorite guns to shoot. The Remington Rifles 721-722 have over the years been noted for their great accuracy. The 721 and 722 are probably a couple of the most accurate out-of-the-box bolt action rifles ever produced. For the extra money I believe the Winchester 70 was a better looking gun with a little better styling.īut I doubt the Remington firearms in model 721 or 722 would take a back seat when it came to accuracy. They were both great guns, and had a great following at that time. The Remington rifles in the 721 standard grade retailed for $88 in 1954. A standard grade model 70 Winchester retailed in 1954 for $120. The Remington firearms in the 721 and 722 were in direct competition with the Winchester model 70. The action was a total makeover of the traditional bolt guns before World War II. This was a totally new concept in bolt action gun design. The Remington Arms company started production of its models 721 and 722 in 1948. with the scope mounted.One of the best Remington rifles ever to be produced.
